GHS CAPA: TV & Multimedia
Germantown High School is home to GHS-TV a nationally recognized multimillion-dollar cable television studio. Students are actively involved in producing and directing the activities of this local access station. Student receive in class training for two years (Film and Video I and II) to hone their on-air talent capabilities, producing skills and/or technical expertise before applying their skills for any number of assignments cablecast to the Memphis area and beyond. Students participate in live specialty shows in-studio and on-location, talk shows hosted by students and community leaders, news reports that air every Saturday on WMC-TV, the local NBC affiliate, and a newscast that goes way beyond morning announcements… all televised to the community and streamed around the globe. Many students graduate as a recipient of Regional and National Student Television Award for Excellence, the student equivalent of an Emmy award. Additionally, the Alliance for Community Media has named GHS-TV the nation’s best Access station an unprecedented eleven times.
